Binstead & COB 0 Ventnor FC 2

With pre-season training making substantial changes to the Ventnor FC starting line-up it was a great start to what will be "Very Successfull" season.

Dropped were last seasons 30 goal-a-piece strike duo Carl Jones & Stuart Barbrook in favour of young pair Harry Mulholland and Charlie Urry and boy was the managers decision a "good-un" !!

Another nervy start saw Binstead get a few meagre early chances but fitness and class began to take its toll mid-way through the first half when "H" broke loose and headed what looked like a sure-fire goal against the Binstead woodwork !!

With barely fourty minutes on the clock "H" broke through again and selflessly gifted the ball to an on-running Charlie Urry to smash into the back of the net for 1-0.

Half-time talk was followed by a switch on the wing with "Mank" taking off a clearly-struggling Jake Ballantyne.

Out for the second and again fitness was the key with the Binstead defenders clearly the worse for wear (Fitness Wise) and struggling. But take nothing away from the "White & Greens" they kept coming forward and it was stout Ventnor defenders Si Crates and Robert Williamson (Aff) (in my opinion) who saved us from conceeding a few times !!

After weathering the storm for a 20 minute period in the second half we again started to "Play Football" with Jamie Treadwell making a massive difference between the two sides along with granite midfield duo Liam Mulholland and Graham Parsons. The latter of the two clearly showing he is approaching peak fitness with the start of the season proper just two weeks away !! Watch out Newport, West Wight and Brading Town....

With constant pressure against the Binstead goal it was again Harry Mulholland who broke the 2nd half deadlock with a fine second goal for Ventnor. Match virtually over !!

Other players of note was normal reserve team keeper James Green who kept a clean sheet in his first start for the first team despite banter from a "Big Mouth" on the Binstead bench (F*ckin Idiot). Billy Thompson who held "Everyone" together at the back, and substitute Callum Trueman who came on and reaked havoc down the Binstead wing !!

"Well Done" to everyone involved a much deserved success. Man of the match could have been a host of players but it boiled down to two in the end with Si Crates & Aff having blinders !!

Greener in Charge!!

First "Website Man Of The Match Award" of £20 goes to.............Si Crates. An eye-catching performance that should send shock-waves through the first division if the form continues. Well done mate.

Next up is GKN on Tuesday 17th August (6pm Kick-Off), and a supposed game to be played at Watcombe Bottom. With the pitch renovations in its final phase it is impossible to host the tie and its our close neighbours Wroxall who have kindly allowed us the use of the Castle Road pitch...thanks guys, you know who you are !!
